Hearing Impaired Provision

Pupils with a hearing impairment can join our Nursery HI Provision from as young as two-and-a-half years after full consultation with the local authority via the Early Years Panel.

The provision for the hearing impaired is an integral part of Icknield Primary School with the children all included in an appropriate mainstream class.  They spend as much of their school day as possible in their classroom, depending on their particular needs.  The programme is supported under the direction of the Class Teacher in conjunction with the Teachers of the Deaf.

We also offer an ‘Outreach’ facility which provides effective and relevant advice to schools and parents (children aged 0-5 years) on raising the achievement levels of children with a hearing impairment.

We work in collaboration with Local Authority Officers, Parents, Health Authority and Voluntary Agencies to promote and monitor the needs of the hearing impaired in line with Luton Borough Council’s Special Education Needs Strategy.
